Church: One of the earliest substantial Roman Catholic churches in Victoria, this bluestone church in the Decorated style was designed by W W Wardell and commenced in 1860 under the superivsion of J B Denny. The Church of St John the Evangelist, East Malvern is of Local architectural significance as the design of Purchas & Teague (and possibly Robert Haddon). It is a late, though fully realised, example of the English Decorated Gothic style.
